Jasper’s Story

In 2005 when I was 12 years old, my mother took my sister to get a Maine Coon kitten. We had just lost our family cat and I was so excited for her (and myself) to be getting a new kitten. We went to the breeders house, as was common back then, and were shown all of the adorable super fluffy kittens which were available. Now, I have always had an affinity for orange cats, my first cat Spike was an orange mix we rescued from a shelter. As we were looking at the kittens, my sister fell in love with Alice; a rare red poly female, and while we were playing with the kittens a little orange and white boy found his way over to me. In all honesty, my mother had no intention of getting two kittens that day, however the breeder saw how this little orange kitten was behaving towards me, she decided to gift me Jasper. Jaspers breeder to convince my mother said that mom had two little girls and so we needed two kittens. Her kindness gave me one of the greatest joys and support systems of my life. Jasper was with me through High school and college, through my first marriage and my divorce. He lived for 18.5 great years and was a testament to what amazing breeding and a simple act of kindness can do for someones life.

Jasper passed away in 2023 from Idiopathic Chylous Effusion. Jasper had already survived lung cancer when he was 13 years old. In memory of Jasper and all of the joy and love he imparted on my life, I decided I wanted to be able to not only give back for further the breed that has meant so much to me.

Who I am, Jasper’s Legacy & Omega Maine Coons

Omega Maine Coons is not my full time job, I actually run as the Vice President an Environmental Consulting and Contracting Firm Aqua Terra Environmental, LLC . I have a Batchelor’s of Science with a focus on Construction Project Management and am working on a Masters Degree in Engineering Management. I spend much of my free time either gardening with the cats in our fenced in Catio or researching any number of science topics.

After Jasper’s passing, I knew I wanted to still have Maine Coons in my life, but I also wanted to do more than just have them as companions. With my background in science and engineering, I started to think about what it would mean for the breed if as a breeder there was a scientific and strategic approach to breeding.

Omega Maine Coons is really my side hobby in working to achieve highly healthy, genetically diverse, beautiful wild looking house cats. The Maine Coon breed is already an amazing cat, however there is currently a lot of inbreeding as well as the use of poor quality foundation animals. I spent over a year selecting and genetically testing my cats to ensure I had top quality stock. All of my Kings and Queens are free from 50 genetic diseases.

Candidly, Jasper and how I got him have always remained at the forefront of my cattery as well. Since breeding is not my primary income, I am not monetarily driven. This means I don’t have to constantly breed to keep up with my lifestyle, afford my house or other things. I am from my primary income lucky enough to be able to access high quality stock and bring that back to my clients who may not be an able to afford the $8,000 purchase price of an overseas import or the high cost of genetic testing to ensure quality cats.

As a mission, Omega Maine Coons offers affordable high quality kittens to loving families. We have a limited warranty on our kittens and a health guarantee for covered genetic diseases.
